1. The capital Hanoi
For me, Hanoi was one of the main reasons to go to Vietnam. This somewhat mystical capital had an enormous attraction to me. The perfect mix between Asian culture and the influence of the French is truly unique. The perfect example of this is the Banh Mi, a French baguette sandwiched with various Asian and Western ingredients. The buildings are mostly in French style, while the clothes here are quite traditional. Very special to see and as far as I am concerned, East meets West is not as popular as in Hanoi.
2. The food is fantastic
A second important reason to start planning your trip to Vietnam now is eating. The Vietnamese cuisine is fantastic. No packages, bags or other easy ingredients here. In Vietnam they only cook with fresh, mostly healthy products. The national dish is Pho, a well-stocked broth with beef, bean sprouts and fresh herbs. Also Ban Xeo, stuffed rice pancakes and the fresh Vietnamese spring rolls (not to be confused with the fried version) are fantastic.
3. The beaches of Phu Quoc and Nha Trang
Despite the fact that Vietnam has an extremely long coast of nearly 3,500 kilometers, you should not be here for the enormous amount of pearly white sand beaches. Yet it is of course nice to spend a few days in an idyllic spot. Fortunately, you can go to Phu Quoc, an island off the coast of Cambodia. I myself am not a beach loverand I chose to enjoy 2 days of the beach of Nha Trang. That is also a nice place to recover from your journey.
4 The big difference between north and south
One of the coolest things about Vietnam was the fact that the north of the country differed so much from each other. The north is a lot more traditional, so it appeals to me personally much more. The people are also a bit stiffer than in the south. In addition, you will find very different dishes in the north than in the south. Very nice! Especially if you compare Hanoi with Ho Chi Minh City you can say that these are two different worlds.
5, Beautiful Ninh Binh
If you want more of the beaten track in Vietnam, then choose to visit the Ninh Binh region. This is also called Halong Bay on the land and I can agree with that. Beautiful cliff cliffs, dreamy vistas and ancient temples determine the landscape here. Ninh Binh is in my opinion the pearl of Vietnam and you can not really skip this region.
6 The beautiful Halong Bay
Of course Halong Bay is also an attraction that you absolutely must take in your route through Vietnam. It is very touristy, but if you choose the right tour , you do not notice that much. This world famous bay is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and that is not for nothing. If you have the time, I advise you to stay for at least 2 nights in the bay.
