Indonesia can not be missed in any overview with the most beautiful islands in Indonesia. Because although it is definitely the most famous island, it is still really beautiful. In contrast to many other islands in Indonesia, there is also a lot to see and do here. Leave the crowded Kuta to the left, choose Ubud as the base and go from there to discovery. Rent a scooter, go with locals and discover temples, intensely green rice fields, deserted beaches (even those are still in Bali!) And enjoy the wide range of beautiful accommodations and delicious food.
It is one of the few places on earth where you can spot the giant komodo dragon. On the island of Komodo, located in the Komodo National Park, you can go with a guide to find the impressive dragon. They are not dangerous, which is why you can only visit the park with a guide. But Komodo has more, so you can dive beautifully!
3. Gili islands
It sounds like the ultimate honeymoon destination – and yes, it is. But the Gili islands are much more than that. For example, we told you that low-budget Gili islands is also possible! You will find the three islands Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air just off the coast of Lombok. With a small budget you can best go to Gili Trawangan, where many backpack accommodations are. The atmosphere is also to this, so if you really want to experience the paradise, then you better visit one of the other two. Especially Gili Meno is a good choice for those seeking tranquility, with beautiful dive spots and equally beautiful accommodations (but adjust your budget here!)
Never heard of Kanawa island? This dream place is located near Flores and is best known for the beautiful reefs for diving and snorkeling. Do not be put off by the fact that there is only one accommodation on the island and that it is a resort. There is also an area where you can camp. And we can promise you: wake up early in the morning and from your tent so the deserted beach is a must.
No stranger to the islands of Indonesia! Lombok is easily accessible, all facilities are there and yet it is much quieter than Bali and actually much nicer. The beaches appeal to the imagination and the island feels very local in most places, with here and there little eateries, bungalows and homestays. The island is best viewed by scooter. Berber already told you all about Lombok , the pristine sister of Bali.
6. Nusa’s Island
If you are still in Bali, take a trip to the beautiful Nusa Islands, consisting of Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida. As far as we are concerned, perhaps the winner when it comes to the most beautiful islands of Indonesia. You will arrive by boat at Lembongan, the largest island with the most facilities. Through the newly built ‘Bridge of Love’ you can then walk to the much smaller Nusa Ceningan. Count on spectacular views over white beaches, endless rows of palm trees and beautiful lagoons. Highly recommended for a short stay after your visit to Bali!
7. Karimunjawa Archipelago
Are you looking for a gem of an island but do not have the time or budget to travel for a long time? Then Karimunjawa is where you have to go. This island is crazy enough on almost no itinerary and that while it is one of the most beautiful islands of Indonesia is also very easy to reach. The Karimunjawa archipelago is located off the coast of Java and only costs you a boat ride of 2 hours. The archipelago consists of some 27 islands, of which only 5 are inhabited and not all of them can also be visited. This archipelago is very well engaged in the development of sustainable tourism.
8. Kei Islands
Is the further the better your motto? Then the Kei islands are your must visit islands of Indonesia. The archipelago belongs to the Moluccas and is a real picture perfect destination. Outside the paradise beaches you will also find jungles with native animals. The two largest islands are Kei Besar and Kei Kecil and are connected by a bridge. From one of these islands you can book boat trips to visit the tiny islands in the archipelago.
Do you have both Flores and Lombok on your itinerary? Then step absolutely halfway through the journey, with which you have by far the most tourists shaken off. The bus connecting Flores and Lombok passes through the beautiful Sumbawa island, but most tourists simply do not see this as a destination. The only exception to this are surfers, who recognize the island because of the world-class surfing possibilities. The island lends itself perfectly for a day or two to enjoy a paradise beach in peace. It also feels a lot more idyllic and local than in Flores, for example. On Sumbawa you eat, drink and sleep especially with the locals, with small-scale restaurants and accommodations. Just as we like it!
10. Bunaken archipelago
Last but not least: the island group Bunaken! For diving enthusiasts this is heaven on earth. Bunaken is one of the best dive sites in the world, thanks to the Bunaken National Marine Park. The Bunaken archipelago consists of 6 islands, but you can stay overnight only on the islands of Bunaken and Siladan. If you are dreaming of a truly unforgettable diving experience, then just go ahead and go here!
